A Study on Expression in Painting through Existential Aesthetics: based on S. Kierkegaard's anthropology

                                                                                                        and author's 「Poom Making」, 「Sarangcho's Story」 Series

This study interprets the works of author on expression in painting through existential aesthetics based on S. Kierkegaard' s anthropology. From the perspective of author who thinks that art is more valuable when reflecting life and life is being projected rather than separating art from life, existential aesthetics of Kierkegaard will interpret the works of author 「Poom Making」 and 「Sarangcho's Story」 series.

Kierkegaard is called as a pioneer of existential philosophy because he is thinker who drew concepts of 'existence', 'subjectivity', 'individuality' and 'anxiety' that are used in various fields such as art, philosophy and religion since the 20th century. Existence for him meant the unity of his idea and existence of the life. Ultimately, the truth he found is the existence as 'a solitary man who stands in front of God', therefore all the main stories he discussed is toward this. He makes writing activities by using anonymity and real name to deliver this truth. Writing with various anonymities follows in existential dialectics he discussed. Also, Kierkegaard thinks the root of existence as anxiety. He suggests that the essence of human beings is a reflection on anxiety which means that it is a possibility of freedom.

This thesis continues the study on the poet as a aesthetic existence based on the understanding of existentialism of Kierkegaard and presents the lives and works of Marc Chagall and Yoko Ono as artists who represent the existential aesthetics, and finally interprets author's 「Poom Making」 and 「Sarangcho's Story」 series. It is described by dividing into images as aesthetic existence and ethical existence according to the existential dialectics of Kierkegaard. There was a change in the existence of author in the change of stage.

Author rather enjoys the possibility of freedom since realizes that human beings have no choice but to live with anxiety. Through this study, author concludes that the true life of individual is a true art. Author imagines to create the future work as an existence of artist and mother through the existential aesthetics.
